On Saturday, February 22nd North Point’s High School team won a bronze medal at the First Annual Calgary Regional Ethics Bowl Competition at the University of Calgary. This competition is sponsored by the U of C Philosophy Department and the Calgary Institute for the Humanities. Ethics Bowl Canada is a Canadian-wide philosophy program for high school and university students. While new to Alberta, tournaments have been taking place at both provincial and national levels for a decade.
Congratulations to Rowan E., Owen J., and Mathieu H. for their performance at the competition! North Point’s team won our first of two matches and represented North Point very well during the competition. Since winter break, our five-member team has been preparing four cases where we explored ethical dilemmas and diverse perspectives, developed a supported theses, and considered the complexities of issues. Although Simone G. and Kian S. were unable to attend the competition, they’ve been integral members of our team and contributed to our team’s preparation for the tournament.
