Mitchell graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education and began his teaching career by teaching grade 1 in Devon, Alberta. The opportunity to begin his career on the ground level with students who were also on the first step of their school journeys inspired great passion and perspective to help students grow every step of the way. He has taught in classrooms from pre-k through grade 12 and believes strongly in the philosophy that the foundation of teaching is to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and school communities. He strives to use a student-first approach to learning in and outside of the classroom to support students in everything they do. Growing up in a small Saskatchewan farming town, Mitchell has a strong sense of community and respects the value it can have on its individuals. At North Point Mitchell strives to make a positive impact on the amazing community that has grown in and around the school.
Coaching and sport has been both a passion and career note for Mitchell. He competed for 5 years as a student athlete at Keyano College on the men’s volleyball team, and was on the first team to represent the program at a CCAA National Championship. The team fell short of winning, finishing 5th place, but the experience was unforgettable and served as inspiration to pursue coaching following his playing days. As an NCCP certified Performance Coach in Volleyball Mitchell has spent 10 years coaching Post-Secondary volleyball working with Grande Prairie Regional College as a head coach, Keyano College as an assistant coach, and after with the SAIT Trojans women’s volleyball program as an assistant coach. Mitchell has spent numerous summers coaching in Provincial team programs for Saskatchewan and Alberta, with highlights of a National silver medal with Saskatchewan U18 Men and a Gold medal with Alberta 16U men. Mr. Schneider is involved with coaching many sports at North Point and enjoys seeing student athletes grow and celebrate their successes!
When he is not teaching or coaching, Mitchell enjoys spending time outside hiking and exploring nature with his dogs, Winston and Penelope. He is a lifelong fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and loves to travel back to Saskatchewan to spend time with family and help on the family farm.
